Yerba Mate

Yerba mate, a member of the holly family, is a South American superstar. The Guaraní and Tupi nations have been sipping on this herb for ages, but it was fashionably late to the global party, only showing up in the late 19th century and really hitting its stride in the 1980s. Back home, it's the jack-of-all-trades in beverages, starring in tea parties and spicing up spirits and other concoctions.
